一位政治家离开议会从家里出走，消失得无影无踪。新闻工作者Gregory Karr正在报导停留在边境的移民和难民的情况，他在人群中碰到一个人非常像那个失踪的政治家。他还找到了一个被作为国境线的河流一分为二的小镇，看到一场超现实的婚礼，新娘和家人在河的这边，新郎和亲友在河的那边。那个人的身份一直没有确定，而那些不幸的难民以及被分割的村庄使Karr理解了他对人情世故的绝望。



Eleni Karaindrou生于希腊中部山区的一个小村庄Teichio，在雅典长大并在Hellenikon Odion学习钢琴与音乐的理论。1969年到1974年间，她在巴黎学习民族音乐学，并在学成返国后成立了传统乐器实验室 (the Laboratory for Traditional Instruments)。Eleni一直对希腊音乐有着无比的热情与支持。她为很多的电影、戏剧编写配乐。从1982年起，Eleni开始为Theo Angelopoulos的电影谱写配乐。

除了传说中发明笛子的半人半羊的希神“潘”和六十年代现代主义作曲家Iannis Xenakis外，希腊真正提供给世界的杰出音乐家寥寥无几——尽管有Vangelis这样的电子先锋及一大批走红于国际舞台的New Age音乐家，在希腊人的眼里，却是卡兰卓将他们的祖国重新放回到世界音乐的版图中。在50多岁的时候，卡兰卓就已经被她的同胞们称为“第十缪斯”（'Tenth Muse'）。她的音乐植根于希腊的传统但却不拘泥于形式，借鉴了民谣、爵士和古典音乐，用希腊民间乐器和各种现代管弦乐器融合出一种独特的古老而近乎神秘的声音，但其精神却是现代主义的。
