A-Z Series (2010) Vol.1

Ash是一支来自北爱尔兰的乐队,于1992年正式成军,其前身是成员Tim Wheeler和Mark Hamilton在1989年成立的乐队Vietnam(两人在12岁那年的圣诞节收到了圣诞礼物——吉他，促成了Vietnam的成立)。1992年,Tim Wheeler,Mark Hamilton与鼓手Rick "Rock" McMurray组成了Ash。他们吸收了Punk,Bripop等风格，并于1994年发行了Trailer EP。三人高中还没有毕业,就有3只单曲打进英国独立榜TOP 5。1995年，Ash的单曲"Kung Fu"成为了成龙电影《红番区》的片尾曲，成为他们打入主流的敲门砖。1996年，Ash发行了被视为他们最佳专辑的1977,好评如潮,反响空前,甚至把Oasis都挤下了冠军宝座。1997年，女吉他手Charlotte Hatherley加入Ash阵容,她参与的第一首单曲就是Ewan McGregor电影"A Life Less Ordinary"的同名主题曲,不过这首单曲在一些地区并未被收入1998年发行的Nu-clear Sounds。Nu-clear Sounds是乐队的第二张专辑,同样非常出色,但却未获一致好评。2001年发行的Free All Angels体现出Ash的日益成熟,同样是上佳之作。2002年,乐队发行了一张收录乐队02年以前所有单曲及22首B-sid的双CD精选Intergalactic Sonic 7"s,同年《Q》将Ash列为"50 Bands To See Before You Die"之一,排名第二位。2004年的Meltdown取得了英国榜TOP 5的成绩,被认为是Ash自1977以后的最佳专辑，标志着Ash的真正成熟。2006年,女吉他手Hatherley在加入乐队九年后离队开始单飞生涯,目前已经发行了3张个人专辑。2007年，恢复三人阵容的Ash发行了Twilight of the Innocents,并宣布这是乐队的最后一张专辑。不过,Ash并没有离开,2007–2010年,他们在录音室灌录了数十首单曲,并于2009年5月18日推出了A–Z Series的首只单曲"Return of White Rabbit"(编号为"ʁ",在"A"之前),更从2009年10月12日到2010年9月27日,每隔两周就发一首单曲,让歌迷们大呼过瘾。A–Z Series的第一辑(A-M)和第二辑(N-Z)分别于2010年4月19日和2010年10月11日发行了CD,并收录了数首Bonus tracks。Allmusic给予A–Z Series (Volume 1)四星评价,A–Z Series (Volume 2)中的单曲"Change Your Name"和"Sky Burial"分别登上了英国摇滚榜的第一位跟第二位。
