A smash hit with ‘Golden Days’ (used by Martini for their Spumante launch campaign), a national radio award for Best Newcomer and the release of her debut album: Krystl made quite an entrance into the Dutch music scene in 2011 with 'Rolling', an enchanting and uplifting album with catchy pop tunes. As she herself puts it: “I couldn’t have wished for a better start.”
Over the last few years, Krystl has worked very hard at discovering and improving her own musical style and songwriting skills. The first result, her catchy debut single ‘Golden Days’, was an instant chartbuster. The song became a 3FM megahit and earned her a Serious Talent award. She was also nominated for two 3FM Awards, winning the one for Best Newcomer’. Spring 2011 saw the release of follow-up singles ‘Bottles’, ‘Fool For You’ and ‘Leaving Home’. In October 2011 Krystl received an Edison award for Best Newcomer.
Krystl worked with Dutch producers Skiggy Rapz and Martijn Konijnenburg on her debut album. She co-wrote most of the songs with Konijnenburg and British songwriter/producer Blair Mackichan (Paloma Faith, Lily Allen, Will Young). Krystl and her team made a conscious choice for an edgier sound. “We deliberately didn’t polish the songs too much; we wanted to keep them spontaneous and fresh,” explains the singer. The result is a catchy pop sound with an edge, influenced by soul and rock.
Krystl is currently writing songs for her second album, which will be released in 2013.
